A Message From the Principal

id000019In 1984 a dream, thought by some to be unattainable, became a reality when St. Stephen's Armenian Elementary School opened its doors with eight students at the Armenian Cultural and Educational center in Watertown, Mass.

With nearly 200 students, the school continues to grow for one simple reason– we have created a unique learning environment that combines the best of American education with a strong foundation in Armenian culture and language. The school’s accreditation in 2003 by the Association of Independent Schools in New England confirmed that St. Stephen’s is on an academic par with the best private schools in the region. I am also proud of something that cannot be measured: our students are especially confident, curious and eager to learn. This is the result of our low teacher-to-student ratio and our talented and committed teachers, who nurture and encourage every one of our students.

Our goal is to provide a positive learning environment with an emphasis on Armenian Cultural Heritage.

We have been working towards this objective by carefully watching over the academic progress, as well as, the general well-being of each student, by updating regularly our bilingual curriculum and by enriching our educational materials. We have also enhanced our curriculum by offering after school classes in piano, advanced math, science, dramatic arts, creative arts, chess, French, computers, dance and basketball.

Every year our students successfully take the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills, we are proud to announce that in language arts and math our students score in the top 15% nationwide. As for our Armenian Language and History Classes they instill in our children a visible pride in our heritage, culture and traditions.

St. Stephen's Armenian Elementary School has reached its present flourishing state, due to the tireless efforts of the School Board, the Teaching staff, the Parent Teachers Organization, as well as, devoted individuals and organizations. Just as the school's past achievements were a result of collective efforts, we must continue to work together to meet the current challenges of expansion, while maintaining the Academic Excellence.
